After facing widespread criticism for Barcelona’s wrongfully disallowed goal against Real Betis at weekend La Liga authority are contemplating use of technology to prevent such events in the future.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has told the press that video assistance for referees will be implemented as soon as they get approval from FIFA.
‘We have always defended the use of technology in soccer and in this case we believe that video referees is the most advanced option,’ Tebas said.
‘The tests are already underway. I believe that beginning in July 2018, if FIFA approves it, we will start using it.’
However, the introduction of goalline technology is unlikely since the La Liga considers it too expensive.
