Antoine Griezmann has been warned by Atletico Madrid captain Gabi that a move to Real Madrid would not be a step up – because Zinedine Zidane’s side are no better than their city rivals.
The 26-year-old is one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards having scored 54 goals since the start of last season.
But Griezmann has been warned that he would not be joining a better team if he chose a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
‘I cannot imagine Griezmann playing for another team,’ Gabi told AS.
‘He is young and can play for any team in the world.
‘As of today, Real Madrid are not better than Atletico, I hope this trend continues with us.’
Griezmann is currently on international duty with France ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Luxembourg on Saturday.
He could then face several Real Madrid stars including Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal when Didier Deschamps’ side take on Spain in a friendly on Tuesday March 28.
