AC Milan general manager Marco Fassone has said it will just be a matter of days before Gianluigi Donnarumma commits to a new contract for the Serie A club.
Last month the 18-year-old goalkeeper turned down Milan’s offer of a new contract beyond the expiry of his current deal in 2018 but, after drawing an angry reaction from fans, he has reportedly had a change of heart.
Reports in Italy suggest he will become the third highest-paid goalkeeper in Europe by agreeing to a deal worth €6 million-a-year plus bonuses and Fassone confirmed that an agreement is imminent.
“I had always said that the doors to Milan would be reopened if Gigio ever reconsidered,” Fassone told Il Corriere della Sera. “There has been some reconsideration and I have the feeling that we are very close to an agreement with the player and his family, although I do not want to get involved in any more compromises.
“I think a decision, which will be down to the player, will arrive in one or two days.”
