Big Spending Of Rivals Will Put Them Under Pressure-Vertonghen

The big spending of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City has put them under pressure, says Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.

Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte have splashed the cash this summer bolstering their respective ranks.

All three clubs have invested over £100 million in new talent, with deals done for the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Tottenham, in contrast, have yet to make a single addition, but Vertonghen believes that is a positive because there is not as much expectation on them as there is facing their Premier League title rivals.

The Belgium international said: “With their spending, then a lot of pressure comes on those teams. You’ve seen how much money has been spent in the window and there’s a month to go. It’s crazy.

“But with spending there’s a lot of pressure on the teams.

“There are four, five teams maybe who have to become champions now and that will put great pressure on them.

“That makes the Premier League the best league in the world to watch. It’s a great thing to play in.

“I’m happy everyone has strengthened their teams because that makes it so much better when you beat them.”
