The Rojillos’ No.10 was born to score and lead CA Osasuna from the middle of the pitch, something he has consistently done over his decade playing for the Navarre club in LaLiga. Torres has played almost 300 league games for the team, scoring 81 goals and wearing his heart on his sleeve.
Born in Arre in Navarra, Roberto Torres was destined to play for CA Osasuna and has dedicated his entire career to the Rojillos, even wearing the captain’s armband on occasion and always doing so with pride. After joining the club at the age of 16, the now 32-year-old has been with the team from Pamplona ever since.
After spending several seasons in CA Osasuna’s B team, Torres played his first LaLiga Santander match for the first team in 2011/12, taking on Málaga CF in a 1-1 draw at La Rosaleda on December 11th of 2011 for his first 19 minutes, having come on in place of Lolo. That season, he featured in another league game against RCD Mallorca, playing almost the same number of minutes and with the score once again 1-1.
The next season was a special one for the versatile midfielder as he played five more times for the first team in LaLiga Santander and scored his first goal in the top flight, doing so on the road against Real Madrid in the final round of the season. That was the first of the more than 80 goals Torres has netted for CA Osasuna over his 11 seasons in LaLiga, during which he has accumulated nearly 300 league appearances. Although he has played as a midfielder throughout this time, in various positions across the centre of the pitch, Torres was born with the soul of a forward. He was born to score goals for CA Osasuna.
Over the years, the Navarre native has experienced highs and lows, having twice been relegated from the first to second division with the club he loves. Yet, he was also able to enjoy the euphoria of promotion as CA Osasuna earned returns to the country’s top tier on both occasions and even won LaLiga SmartBank in 2018/19. During those two promotion-winning campaigns, Torres scored 12 times in each of those seasons.
Every year, Torres does all he can to help the team and he remains one of the leaders at the club. In 2021/22, they’ve started the campaign brilliantly and Torres has played his part, scoring once and assisting another in the 3-2 win over Cádiz CF in Matchday 3 and then adding another goal to complete a 2-0 win over Deportivo Alavés in Matchday 5, after David García had opened the scoring.
He is a player who coaches can trust, one who stands out in every match and who brings calm to the rest of his teammates. This one-club man is key for coach Jagoba Arrasate, as Torres will win balls and clear crosses when his team are out of possession, before taking control and linking up well with his colleagues in attack. The 32-year-old has the physicality needed to contest every duel and to come out on top. Every time he steps out at El Sadar, he looks to give the fanbase goals and victories to celebrate. Season after season, he never tires of being the reliable midfielder who is always there to help score goals.
