Chelsea icon Marcel Desailly believes the time has come for captain John Terry to leave the club after falling down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.
Terry, 36, has played only six minutes in the Premier League since mid-September with Antonio Conte inclining toward a backline consisting of David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill in his beginning XI.
Terry’s current situation reminds Desailly of his own time at the club and he feels Terry should say goodbye to Chelsea.
“I left because they were faster than me, better than me and it was my time to go – their time to shine – and now it is his time,” Desailly told Sportsmail.
“It is great to see that he has been able to handle it. You are the captain, you have been put to the side a bit because other players are more suited for the tactics required, but you are still there present, you are still there focused.”
Terry’s contract ends at the end of the season.
