Jurgen Klopp is expecting FIFA’s decision on Joel Matip on Friday.
The 25 year old has not been cleared to play for Liverpool in their last league match as Cameroon claims that the defender refused to play for his nation in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
Matip has not played for Cameroon since September, 2015 and was not named in Cameroon’s 23 man AFCON squad.
But his country’s football federation claims he willingly refused to play in the competition which makes him ineligible to play for Liverpool, according to FIFA regulations, as long as Cameroon plays in the AFCON.
“In this moment he is not in the squad for Cameroon, but we have no 100% guarantee that he could play for us. I’d consider putting him in the line-up tomorrow, but I’m not sure I can,” Klopp said.
“Fifa told us on Friday they’ll decide if they’ll open a case about it or not.”
Matip might not be back before 11 February if he is not allowed to play before the end of the competition.
