Freddy Adu will join pre-season trials at Portland Timbers.

Adu played for NASL club Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2016 but the club didn’t renew his contract for 2017.

The former US soccer prodigy will be reunited with Timbers head coach Caleb Porter, who coached Adu on the USA U-23 team during its unsuccessful qualifying attempt for the 2012 London Olympics.

After being drafted first overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft at age 14, Adu has played for 12 clubs in 13 years.
