At 20 years old Mbappe is already regarded as one of the best players on the planet. Here the French International tells soccer 360 all about that World Cup win, why he doesn’t want to be compared to Messi and Ronaldo just yet, and that now is not the time to sleep…

Let’s talk about that World Cup win first of all – talk us through that night…

It is a lifetime dream. It is by far the most watched soccer competition. You know that the whole world is watching you know that you are representing your entire country. I can’t even been to describe the pride and happiness I felt when we won.

How long does it take to sink in?

It is all surreal at first, you have all the media surrounding you, but when we had The World Cup parade in Paris then you understand exactly what you have achieved.

At 20 years old you have achieved what most players can only dream of. How does it get better than that?

It was a fantastic moment but I think what comes next can be even better. Maybe we can win the next World Cup and win twice in a row and of course there are many things like The Champions League I want to win at club level. Maybe I will have a 15 year career and I have just started it – now is not the time to sleep

What do you think is your best attribute on the pitch – your pace, dribbling or finishing?

I am interested in being the complete player. I am very young – but I try to improve everything not just concentrate on one aspect of my game.

What is it like to be regarded by many football experts as the best Under-21 player on the planet? Do you have that same belief in your ability?

I have belief of course – but at the same time I understand I am only 20 and have a lot to learn. Every player would want to be the best – but you must have the right work ethic and attitude as well.

What are your career aspirations?

For me the ambition of the team is more important than individual ambition. Of course it would be nice to win The Ballon D’Or – but for me it is much more important to win say The Champions League with PSG or trophies with France

Being such a young player with so much expectation on you – how important is it to have a supportive family?

When you are a young player having a balanced family life means you can concentrate on giving everything on the field. My parents, my brothers, they have always supported me and it is everything for me.

Do you believe you can eventually reach the heights of Messi and Ronaldo in your career?

I have self-belief, but also I have a long way to go to compare with players who have done so much. I work hard and I am training with the best everyday – so I am going in the right direction.

Who is the best player you’ve ever played with – and why?

Neymar is as good as any player in the world – and it is a pleasure to be able to learn off him.

Who was your footballing hero growing up as a child – and why?

Zidane was the first – because he is the player that made me fall in love with football. Also Cristiano Ronaldo and of course Neymar who I am so fortunate to call a team-mate and friend.
