Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand attempted to suggest that he really wanted City to progress whilst appearing as a pundit on BT Sport. But co-pundit Steven Gerrard was on hand to call him out for lying.

“We’re going to Monaco tomorrow to see the Manchester City game and I’d love to see two English side in the draw,” claimed Ferdinand.

But Gerrard wasn’t having any of it.

“Are you sure, as a Man United fan, you want City to go through?” he asked.

“I’m an England fan,” protested Ferdinand.

“I’m not sure he means that,” suggested Gerrard.

Gary Lineker then got involved and asked Gerrard: “If it was Everton, you’d be cheering them on though, wouldn’t you?”

And Gerrard sarcastically replied: “Yeah, sure I would.”
