One on One with Neymar!

Firstly congratulations on winning Gold at The Olympics, how did it feel?
It was a very special time, a very emotional time, but already it feels like so long ago. I had a couple of weeks’ vacation after Rio, but now I am back with Barcelona and focussed on a successful season.

A gold medal for your country, next a World Cup winners medal?
I hope so, of course the World Cup is the biggest dream of every player. It is two years away at the moment, but for Brazil that is always the ambition.

What does a successful season look like for Barcelona?
For us it is very simple, we try and win every competition that we compete in. It is not about prioritising one over the other, we are Barcelona – we want to win everything.

The Messi, Suarez, Neymar (or MSN as you are more fondly known) are playing a brand of soccer, that is being called not from this planet?
We are coming to know each other more. We are getting to the point where we know how each other think, we know on the field where each other will be, the runs we will make. We have such a good relationship off the field – and I think that is showing on it.

Many experts are tipping you to take over Messi – as the world’s greatest player?
Messi is the best in the world, and he has been for a long time, but of course my ambition is to be the best player in the world. I hope that one day that is what people call me, but for now I am happy to say that title belongs with Messi.

The way you are playing at the moment, you are coming under attack from some pretty physical opposition on the field – how do you cope with that?
I take it as a compliment, if that is they only way the opposition can stop me, it is a big compliment for me. I don’t even think about it, you must just trust the referees to do their job and protect the players.

Who were your idols, who did you look up to as a youngster?
Being Brazilian you have so many to choose from, but I watched a lot of Ronaldo, Robinho, and Ronaldinho, and even though he had long finished playing – of course Pele as well.

You have even recently  launched a music career, can you tell us more?
Music has always been a really big passion of mine, and I know it’s something I have always wanted to be a part of. Keep an eye on my social media, and watch this space…

Who are your favourite artists at the moment?
Music is such a big part of my life, I got a lot of inspirations and artists I listen to, but I have got to hang with Drake a couple of times, and he is a big talent.

You have a tattoo saying “life is a joke” do you really believe that?
There are many important things in life, but what it means is make sure you always have fun. Playing for Barcelona is a big responsibility, but I still like to approach things like I am that kid back in Brazil – kicking the ball around in my yard.
