Not predictions — wishes
Football's future does not have to be defined entirely by transfer records and trophy favourites. Soccer360's 2027 Wish List is an invitation to imagine a year in which the game becomes more competitive, fairer and better for those who play and support it.
Jason Witting's feature also celebrates the simple joys that make football memorable: extraordinary title races, unlikely heroes, unforgettable tournaments and one more magical season from familiar stars.
Build a healthier game
An increasingly crowded calendar has placed enormous demands on elite players. The Wish List calls for fewer unnecessary fixtures, meaningful recovery time and a healthier balance between commercial growth and sporting welfare.
It also imagines major transfer windows closing before leagues begin, giving coaches settled squads, players greater clarity and supporters the freedom to concentrate on matches rather than constant speculation.
Make opportunity more equitable
At the other end of the football economy, grassroots clubs frequently play a major role in identifying and developing future stars. The feature argues for more transfer money to reach those clubs, supporting coaching, facilities and affordable pathways for young players.
Greater transparency around agent fees and stronger scrutiny of multi-club ownership are part of the same concern: making sure the sport remains competitive and accountable rather than rewarding the most financially powerful organizations alone.
Let talent and tradition thrive
The list hopes for more opportunities for young domestic players, renewed importance for historic cup competitions and compelling underdog stories that challenge the favourites. It also looks toward an unforgettable Women's World Cup in Brazil, a memorable African Cup of Nations in East Africa and an Asian Cup full of surprises.
Some wishes will come true; others will remain hopeful talking points. That is the point. This editorial exercise asks football supporters to consider the game they want to watch — and the game they want to leave to the next generation.
